Reflections on Practical 10
In my opinion, I think that EIR is like the sea. EIR gives me water of knowledge. The water of knowledge is the information that i have learnt during the EIR lessons such as using Boolean operators and the criteria for evaluating websites.
With water, i would be able to live. Thus, when i live, i can do other things like eating and stuff. Same for EIR. With the knowledge i learnt in EIR, then i could do many things like narrowing down my research and getting better search results.

My Dream Holiday
I would like to go to JAPAN! Japan is nice and has cherry blossoms now as it is the spring season, making japan a nice scenery. Also, Japan is a multimedia hub for anime and manga, which i both love! Thus, i would like to go there.
For evaluating the multimedia websites for finding pictures, i used the COVERAGE and ACCURACY criteria.
COVERAGE
For coverage, i would see whether website has enough information about the wonders of Japan. If it has very little information and not much coverage about other areas in Japan, then i would not want to got there.
ACCURACY
Sometimes, websites show the nice pictures of cherry blossoms blooming and the falling of snow. However, this might not be true as the climate in japan will change. Thus, there might not be snow or Cherry blossoms there.

Reflections on Practical 7
Today, we learnt about evaluating websites. We evaluated the local news archive, STOMP (Straits Times Online Mobile Print) . We evaluated on the citizen journalism site. We used four criteria, coverage, accuracy, authority and currency to evaluate the website.
For me, i used mainly authority to evaluate this website. Since this website is on citizen journalism, some views might not be trusted, unlike information from a professional.
For coverage, STOMP mainly covers alot of articles about local scene such as public harrasment and celebrities.
By sharing my views on wiki, i can make my views heard so that people can use it to change information on the wiki and make the wiki better.

Reflections on practical 6
Today, we learnt about the invisible web.I used TP's digital portal research library http://spark.tp.edu.sg/ .
Invisible web usually has relevant information that is direct onto the topic, specifically for the students. Metasearch and search engines usually have information that are for quantity, not for quality. Search engines such as google tries to return the most number 0f results possible. Thus, invisble web is better in some ways than search engines and metasearch.
I might not use the invisble web for my diploma. This is because i am not accustomed to using invisible web and prefer to use popular search engines such as google.
About the wiki, i think collaborating with other students on the wiki is kind of good as i can learn some stuff that i did not research about.

Reflections on Practical 4 & 5
Today, i learnt about using metasearch to browse through different search facilities for search results. Basically, i used the metasearch engine, metacrawler, for this practical.
By searching different search engines for articles, i would get a bigger variety of results compared to using search engines such as Google and search directories such as Yahoo! . Metasearch also returns only the best results possible, thus the number of search results is narrowed down to about 100 at most. However, sometimes, the search results in meta search could be all from 1 search engine only, thus reducing its effectiveness.
Site feeding a blog is great. People could easily access the site feed. Also, if there is any updates or changes on the website that i am site feeding, i would be notified. This allows life to be easier.
By collaborating with other students on the wiki, we could add on the information that has already been there and by slowly adding on, the information would grow bigger and better!

Reflections on practical 3
Today, we learnt how to search information on search engines such as google effectively. This allows me to find more articles that are more relavant to the topic.
We learnt how to narrow down our search by using boolean operators like AND and OR, wildcard operators like * and N/2.This will help to reduce my search results and refine them so that only the best results would be shown from the top. With this, i made a search query out of these operators so that they would return me the best results possible.
Citation and bibliography is important as this will allow the hard work of the people who created these resources to be known. Thus, I would not be able to plagiarize and put the information as my own.
Participating in a discussion forum is quite fun as i can interact with people. However, my topic that im researching on is HIV/AIDS research and thus the people i am interacting with are quite negative in thoughts, most of them being HIV-positive. Thus, it was kind of strange talking to them as they were literally dying people.

Reflections on Practical 1 & 2
Today, we learnt about the different kinds of connections that EIR has. Actually, i did not use twitter at all and i didnt really know how to use it because I am a facebook fanatic like most people. Thus, i signed up for twitter and learnt how to use it durng this lesson.
We also learnt about the different kind of internet resources such as websites, discussion forums and blogs. We also learnt the purpose of these websites. Some of them are for business purposes, for example, www.seowchoon.com is to promote their games business and their online shop. Some of them are for personal purposes, for example blogs.
